Hello world
Hello world!
This time I decided to strategically rebuild my blog and its hosting architecture. The reason behind that was, a few weeks ago, GitHub aka Microsoft decided to suspend my GitHub account with absolutely zero warnings or informations. And with that around 70 or so repositories got removed from github. My previous blog was hosted on github, therefore I had lost all previous posts.
That struck with me, a central entity has absolute control over your data and can censor it at any given point in time without proper user governance. I am certainly not a fan of that, so I came up with a solution.
Enter the ArWeave Network
ArWeave is a fully decentralized compute- and storage-network. Think of it as pretty similar to IPFS or Filecoin but operated on a much more persistent and efficient way. With ArWeave you have the capability to upload any arbitrary type of data to its decentralized storage network. The springing point however is that previously uploaded files and resources are fully immutable, take-down resistant, censorship-resistant and cant be removed. Neither by the uploader, nor by the ArWeave operators and maintainers. In fact it cant be changed in any way by absolutely no entity on this planet.
Now lets move on to this cool, shiny new domainname that I got myself. timo.ar.io is a decentralized domain name that is hosted on one of the hundreds of hosting gateways of ArWeave. The root ar.io Domain operator is fully decentralized. So even on DNS level we have absolute resiliency. Now lets assume the ar.io hosting gateway somehow crashes or has an outage due to whatever reason. The next thing that will happen is, since the ArWeave Name System is fully decentralized, I can just switch to any of the hundreds of other hosting gateways and call my site just like that using https://timo.hostinggateway.com. The cool thing is that, this domain is immutably bound to a static ArWeave deployment which is propagated across the whole ArWeave network, so any ArWeave hosting gateway will be able to host and access this site without configuration.
